Claire lives with her daughter, who has sensory needs and mild autism. Struggling with her mental health, finances, affording food, and daily tasks, she felt overwhelmed. She had tried seeking help but missed a call from another service and wasn’t sure where to turn next.

When we spoke, Claire was provided with an opportunity to share her situation without time constraints. Together, we explored support options to address her priority matters. Claire decided to re-contact Talking Therapies, signed up for the Food Pantry at Eastmoor Community Project, and was referred to Citizen’s Advice Wakefield District for financial guidance. We also introduced her to local social opportunities within her local community to help with her low mood.

This joint planning and personalised care approach meant Claire left our initial conversation with direction and a clear plan of what she would like to do next to take control and meet her goals.

When we followed up, Claire had independently taken steps to improve her wellbeing. She rescheduled her therapy appointment, accessed support with attaining food, and started attending free counselling via Turning Minds Around CIC.

She told us she felt ‘much better’ and, for the first time in a while, had the energy to clean her home and take care of herself.

Claire said our conversation made her feel understood and empowered, giving her the confidence to take control of her wellbeing.
