Debra reached out for support in finding a local mental health support group, knowing that peer support had worked well for her in the past. She struggled with her mental health following physical health conditions that led to long term sickness leave from work. Anxiety and panic attacks were affecting her confidence, isolating her from family and daily life.
After discussing options, we introduced her to Cuppa Club at Queen’s Mill (Castleford Heritage Trust)—a welcoming space to connect with others. She attended with us, met new people, and quickly formed friendships. She now regularly returns to catch up with them and has also started attending Time for Tea events with Age UK Wakefield District.
Debra says these social connections have filled the gap left by being out of work and improved her confidence and mood more than she expected. What began as a search for mental health support led to new friendships and a stronger sense of belonging.
